We sat right under this fellow & his buddy. Julia looked at me at one point while I was snapping pictures of her to tell me....
"Aunt Kim, that gorilla moved.", to which I assured her I didn't think it had. I was wrong. Boy, was I WRONG! He did indeed move & so did his buddy, every minute or two. Julia was NOT a happy camper about this. So while Amanda took her to the bathroom to wash her hands & also explain to her that these animals (the gorillas, elephants, etc.) were machines, I held Bryce. They had told us as they seated us that the elephants would trumpet every 15 minutes & that their would be a "thunderstorm" every 30 minutes. What did that "thunderstorm" mean? It meant that ALL of the lights would go off, "lightning" would flash across the ceiling & all of the animals would go mad. Which resulted in Bryce FREAKING out while Amanda was in the bathroom & holding onto me for dear life. Julia went exploring with Uncle Harry to touch the machine animals & see that they were fake & this is how Bryce stayed until we left, which was only about 10 minutes after we got there.
Poor baby. He was terrified!
The Best Part: The Beach

Julia decided she needed to add some seaweed to her "soup" that she was making. She loves to cook for real & also for play & tells us that she is going to be a chef. She is always asking us what are the ingredients in food & has us read ingredients off of packages for her. Smart cookie!
I love when I can capture two people that I love into one picture & they are both doing something completely different. This is one of my favorite pictures from our trip.
Bryce found this stick on the beach & it became his toy for the rest of the time we were at the beach.
Bryce picked the seaweed out of Julia's "soup" & thought it was pretty nasty. He ended up giving it to Amanda. When you are a kid and you find something nasty isn't that what you always do? Give it to mommy.
Uncle Harry & Julia love to go on walks together. They've done it in her neighborhood, at the park, just where ever. So this was no different. They walked from one rock "pier" to another, back again, to a potty at Ihop & back to the car. Yes, they walked into an Ihop like this. Julia needed to go potty & Harry felt that a port a potty wasn't quite up to his standards for Julia.
What I love is how much they talk while they are on their walks. Harry truly loves & cherishes this time with Julia & always has. He loves being able to just walk along with her & listen & talk with her. He tells me they talk about the most random things (as kids tend to do), but all of it means so much to him.
At this point they had no idea I was taking their picture.
Until I yelled their names. Then they kindly posed for me.
And continued on their way....
The seagulls are always ready at any second to swoop down for a snack...
& they fear no one.
Ahhhhh.....When we drove into Galveston it was night but we got to our hotel & as we were looking out from our balcony at the ocean Bryce pointed & said, "Waa-waa.", even he understood. Yes, Bryce, waa-waa...the beach...relax...let the sounds of the waves take away your stress while the sun looks down upon you...listen to the seagulls caw...watch the waves approach & then retreat from the beach...AHHHHH

I saw a few butterflies flitting about but this was the only one I could capture on film. It was beautiful. Truly magnificent.
Then I found some caterpillars in danger in the interactive, butterfly maze. This beautiful caterpillar seemed pretty certain she could sweet talk her way out of danger from the bird.
This handsome caterpillar was just excited to be this close to a bird. I think he wasn't quite aware of the danger he was in!
This handsome caterpillar figured that he & the bird could become friends. :)
See the beautiful caterpillar made it & is now in her pupa busily transforming into a butterfly. The handsome caterpillar was able to escape from the bird, also!
We learned along the way that caterpillars & butterflies are prey to all kinds of creatures! They live a life full of danger & peril.
However, if they are careful, they can live the rest of their lives as beautiful & handsome butterflies...
We were so hot & sweaty in the exhibit. It was so hot!
We're hot, but we're cool at the same time. That is just how we roll.
The ferry ride to nowhere land:
Amanda found this cool ferry that would take us to this island that was only accessible by the ferry. It could carry up to 70 cars or something like 8 or 18 semi-trucks. It was free & we thought it could be fun. So away we went. What we weren't aware of was that the line to get onto the ferry in your car was miles long. Although there was a new ferry every 18 minutes it took about an hour maybe 45 minutes to get onto the 20 minute ferry ride. But once you were on you could get out of your car & see the sights.
Now once you landed onto the island you started driving down this two lane road. And you drove...& you drove...& you drove...you'd see houses on stilts that had obviously been hit by Hurricane Ike & not recovered. This island was probably hit BEFORE Galveston & you can tell. There seemed to be nothing. A lot of the people on the ferry had fishing equipment but where they went we have no idea because the other half of the ferry passengers turned right around at the first opportunity & got back in line to go back onto the ferry & get back to Galveston. It was a fun ride though even if Aunt Kim was super panicky about the kids looking out at the ocean while in Uncle Harry's & their mom's arms or that the ferry rocked from side to side...in the end though, it was fun & their were beautiful sights & the kids & Harry & Amanda loved it. It was a great find by Amanda!
